St Michael' Convent School

Atal Lab

St. Michael’s convent high school is privileged to be one among the 3000 schools selected across the country by Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), New Delhi, to establish Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs) that encourage innovative thinking among young students. The school was selected from over 25,000 applications from all over the country. Ours is one among the three schools chosen from Karwar.

The objective of establishing these labs is to foster curiosity, creativity and imagination in young minds and inculcate skills such as design mindset, computational thinking, adaptive learning, physical computing etc. Young children will get a chance to work with tools and equipment to understand the concept of STEM (science, technology, engineering and Math). ATL would contain educational and learning ‘do it yourself’ kits and equipment on -science, electronics, robotics, open-source microcontroller boards, sensors, and 3D printers and Computers.

The atal tinkering lab was inaugurated in our school in the year 2019. Our students from VI-X are using the ATL to develop skills such as drilling, robotics, etc. Workshop and classes have been conducted for the students of our school and also for the community students i.e. students of nearby schools of our taluk attend the workshop in the ATL lab. Our students from VI to X have attended online workshop conducted by the BIBOX labs, Bangalore.

In March 2022, our students of std IX participated in ATL marathon by developing a model.

Science Lab

The science lab follows all the safety guidelines and provide students an enriching environment to learn the practical aspects of science. Teachers assist students in this stream of learning. Labs provide students with various opportunities to learn and experiment, which plays a crucial role in the ongoing intellectual development of students at the academic level.

Experimenting in a science lab helps students develop better memory power. Whether it is learning the basics of chemistry through the interactions of acids and bases, science labs are a vital part of education. An ideal science lab for students has a lot of safe equipment.

Experiments that teach kids about color, light, and sound can help them explore their world. There is always an active involvement of both hands and mind while experimenting as opposed to rote memorization of facts.

Our science lab is designed to give students not only a solid foundation in understanding the natural world but also to help students discover a career in science that is right for them. The hands-on education they get in the lab is vital for nurturing the next generation of science professionals.

Computer Lab

We have a well organized computer lab with a live projector learning and teaching. We use windows for teaching-learning, documentation and presentation. Students have access to the computer lab, which provide the tools and technologies in which Microsoft Window Software is available for Word Processing, Spreadsheet, PowerPoint and Database Management. A variety of animation and website creation ideas and programming are also being taught. They can work at their own pace, revisit concepts they may not have understood and receive instant feedback on their progress. This helps to enhance their learning outcomes and increase their confidence in using technology. We have computer classes scheduled twice a week. We have separate computer labs for the primary and high school.

Arts

Art stimulates the imagination of a child. Watching the child completely engrossed in arts is to recognize that the brain is active and driven by aesthetics and emotions. Art and craft actually help children with their concentration, thinking skills, visual learning, cultural exposure creativity and self-esteem which has proven to increase IQ levels. Our school lays great emphasis on creativity and passion for arts. Students art work is showcased during exhibitions and often displayed on the school notice board. Our skilled teachers embolden students to actively participate in all the interschool competitions and extra-curricular activities. There are some examples of how teachers innovate activities while teaching crafts. Even the simplest activities like creating bird with coconut font. Our students learn basics in drawing, innovative craft, colour theory etc. as a part of visual Arts.

Camera surveillance

Safeguarding the well-being of all the students and staff is the primary concern for schools today. Depending on the school’s infrastructure, camera surveillance is important in classrooms, hallways, playground, laboratory, computer labs and at entry and exit points . Once a child arrives at school, whether they walk, cycle, travel by bus or are dropped off, parents expect their safety to be a priority. CCTV surveillance systems are excellent deterrents against incidents occurring during school hours, whether it is bullying, unauthorized access, or demolition.Cameras mounted near main entrances and in administrative offices can help you record each visitor as they enter and exit the school.
